Developing staff as well as students is a key part of my role and a hugley enjoyable one.
I love exploring different platforms and approaches to training and development with all stakeholders to get the very best out of people and to achieve our common goals.
This process always starts with significant front end analysis to ensure i'm clear on the context, intent, outcomes, required monitoring and tracking along the way with lots of collaborative reflection afterwards.
It goes without saying that as the head teacher, I worked with staff weekly to develop their teaching and learning skills through extensive training programmes targeting Outstanding gradings through Ofsted criteria as well as driving leadership development too.
However, here are some examples of the varied scenarios and ways I've delivered training with slightly different focuses and outcomes.
In order to implement an initaitive for staff to deliver audio feedback for students, I created a course for staff to complete, at first with me as a group and then online to perfect the skills.
This was reinforced with myself and two staff members from the pilot scheme, supporting teachers with their first attempts along with reflections in staff meetings to continually refine the process, provide a troubleshooting forum and share successes. I also provided a job aid with solutions to troubleshooting issues that were identified in reflections.
This evolved into something even bigger than first imagined as the impact on student learning and engagement was was confirmed by our external Progress Partner along with reducing staff marking time for English by 20%.
In order to have all students using the same language when using their iPads, I created a creditation course known as Digital Badges. Each student had to complete a short course targeting key skills and language of the iOS system. Once complete, they were Airdropped a digital badge certificate.
Each week, there was either a step by step guide or a video guide students could access to develop the skills.
This meant that the time spent using the devices in lessons was much more efficient as the language and the understanding of the system was now shared.
Here I created a website to support a more positive onboarding experience for new staff . This was designed to enable key preparation tasks to be competed in the build up to starting and to ensure compulsory compliance issues were covered to maximise time and ultimately, a quicker and stronger start.
From here, staff were directed to specific school and national policies they had to read and sign, examples of planning and outcomes, video tutorials on Google Suite and key apps as well as links to common websites to save.
It was a very efficient way of allow accessing and sharing before being on site.
The lockdown provided huge opportunities to develop learning in new and creative ways and required significant training for staff, students and families. Despite the awful circumstances, I relished this opportunity and the chance to find ever more creative and engaging ways to drive learning success. These examples use a combination of various tools such as iMovie, Google Suite, Screencastify and GarageBand for the films and Google Slides, Keynote or PowerPoint for the presentations.
This video guide was shared with families during lockdown to help those who were finding it difficult to log on to Google Classroom and access the online learning.
To make sure our content was being made with the highest level of creativity to engage our students during, this guide was shared with staff.
I created this short guide to help reduce staff workload after having found a workaround for sheduling assignments. This was shared across the whole of our Trust during lockdown.
